In China pajamas are not necessarily
sleepwear. The guy in this photo is sporting a pair of pajama bottoms
and slippers as he walks home from shopping. In the summer pajamas
serve as a sort of leisure suit for some; it is not uncommon to see
people in restaurants wearing pajamas while having dinner. And why
not? What we put on and where we go in it is determined as much by
culture and habit as it is by the intrinsic nature of the clothes
themselves. Still, and call me a cultural chauvinist if you must, I
get a kick out of scenes like this one. |
