This is a mid afternoon shot of a bar in Beijing's Houhai entertainment area. Houhai (literally "Rear Sea" - and, yes, there is a lake) has dozens of bars, tea houses and restaurants catering to up market Chinese and foreigners. In the run up to the Olympics, stories abound about Beijing night spots being closed and/or harrassed by local police, especially ones serving foreign guests. It seems some clubs near Olympic event venues have been closed. A stay at home curmudgeon myself, I can not say with certainty how widespread or even how real the crackdown on night time fun is. If, however, day time appearances are a guide, Houhai is ready to go for Olympic night life.
