Last Saturday Beijing held a test race on the course to be used in the 2008 Olympics. Some of next year's racers were featured. The city government also gave its plan to improve traffic flow and air quality during the Olympics a test run for three days beginning last Friday. From my observations, admittedly limited to what I can see with my own eyes, the plan did little to accomplish either of its two goals: the roads still appeared to be clogged with cars and air quality was lousy. According to the English language version of the People's Daily, however, the bike race was a resounding success. |
